ENROFLOXACIN ORAL SOLUTION TO ADMINISTER IN DRINKING WATER

Composition
Enrofloxacin 20mg, excipient q.s. 1ml

Target animals
Caged birds like Canaries, Common Goldfinch, Parakeets, Zebra finch, Monk parakeet, Parrots, Blue-and-gold macaw, Cockatiels and similar birds.

Indications
Treatment of infectious diseases originated by bacteria sensible to enrofloxacin such as mycoplasmosis, septicemia, infectious coryza, pasteurellosis, salmonellosis and staphylococcalinfection among others.
The use of SERIFLOX must be restricted only to cases where bacteria show resistance to otherantibiotics. A bacteriological confirmation of the disease and a sensitivity test of the causing bacteria must be done before using SERIFLOX.
In case there is no positive response after 3 days of treatment, a different therapy might be indicated.

Dosage rate and administration
Oral solution to administer in drinking water.
The average dose is 20mg of SERIFLOX/ weight kg.
20 drops of SERIFLOX are 20mg (each drop contains 1mg)
The average water consumption and the bird’s weight must be calculated for a correct dosage.
Example: For medium size birds (50g) apply 2 drops per drinking trough from 5 to 7 days.

Drinking water should be renewed every day

Contraindications
SERIFLOX should not be used in case there is resistance to quinolones. Do not use in cases of hypersensitivity to enrofloxacin.
Animals presenting growing disorders should not be treated.

Side effects
Enrofloxacin is an antibiotic with low toxicity, side effects are rare and mild and they disappear as soon as the treatment is suspended.
The most common side effects affect articulations in young animals and the nervous system, the urinary system and gastro-intestinal tract.
The most common cutaneous reaction is a transitory eruption.
Intoxications with quinolones may cause liquid stool.
This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If you have questions about side effects, contact your health care provider. Call your veterinary for medical advice about side effects.

Enrofloxacin drug interactions
Do not administer combined with bacteriostatic antibiotics (macrolides or tetracyclins) or with substances containing magnesium, calcium and/or aluminum, given the fact that they can reduce enrofloxacin absorption.
Hepatic interactions may appear with other drugs with hepatic elimination.
Do not administrate with non steroidal anti-inflammatories.

Overdose
Doses of 20mg/kg (weight) during 15 days have not shown side effects.
In case of overdose a slight stimulation of spontaneous mobility will be seen and treatment should then be suspended.
Quinolone intoxication may cause liquid stool.
